Eastern Mennonite University welcomes the new year with a new sport
Eastern Mennonite University is getting adding a brand-new sport.
Drum roll please --
Starting in the 2018-2019 season, women's lacrosse will be played in the heart of Harrisonburg, at EMU.
The sport will be added to an already robust line-up of athletics, but folks with the university are excited.
They believe this won't only enrich kids with more options athletically, but they also think it will help them in the classroom as well.
"As an Athletic Director that understands how much playing a sport adds to a student's education, and how much it gives them life skills for later on, I'm ecstatic about being able to provide that opportunity," said David King, the EMU Director of Athletics.
The plan right now is to hire a coach this year, let them recruit all of next year, and then in 2018, begin the season.
