Elkton close to opening new $84,000 playground
Elkton's $84,000 playground will be ready to use in just a few days.
An old playground that Elkton was receiving complaints about inspired the new one to be built
"The kids' castle before was not any good," said Elkton Mayor Wayne Printz. "It had splinters in it and was not safe for our children."
Mayor Printz thanked town council for addressing the problem in a timely manner. He said the quick action in replacing the old playground was inspired by a desire to benefit kids in the community.
"We got a significant number of complaints," he said, "and we knew that action had to be taken. We were not going to allow our children to be in an unsafe situation."
Mayor Printz said the community was understanding when the town had to cancel planned events because of the safety issue.
"This was heartfelt," Mayor Printz said. "There were many people that had already scheduled some programs for their kids down here."
The playground should be open by the start of next week, with a grand opening to follow sometime after, according to Mayor Printz.
