The town of Elkton is looking to get some big investments in the future.

Leaders met Monday night to hear of a new master plan that could bring jobs and health benefits to the town.

"Something like this put before our small town of Elkton is just unbelievable," said Elkton Mayor Wayne Printz.

He and town council got a first look at a new master plan for the Shenandoah Wellness Park project - an idea developers say will greatly impact the Elkton community.

"It's a unique mission-driven project that focuses on health and wellness and restoration of America's heroes. Military veterans, NFL heroes, as well as the general populous," said developer Richard Hine.

The group claimed Elkton is the perfect place for this project, being close to two interstates and two major universities: JMU and UVA.

The plan is made of up a three village concept. One would be for rehabilitation and restoration, one for entertainment, and for athletics.

"The real economic driver to the project is Shenandoah Athletic Park. Which has twelve soccer fields, multi purpose soccer fields, football fields, lacrosse fields, indoor basketball, indoor volleyball, food court, rifle range, shooting range, archery, ropes course, etc." said Hine.

While the idea is in the early stages, Mayor Printz believes it is a good idea.

"I don't know what else more you could ask for. And I'm proud that we're at least taking an opportunity to listen to it," Hine said. "The council will sort it out. They're smart, they know what they're doing. And i think we will come up with a great plan for the future of our town."

Developers said there are many more studies to be done, including traffic, financial and even grading before another presentation can be given to the town council.
