ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- A community is grieving after the loss of Carroll Baugher of the Elkton Emergency Squad.

He joined the rescue squad in September of 2009 and served as chief for six years.

He also volunteered with the McGaheysville Fire Department.

His crews, friends and family remember him as someone who made the squad a priority and loved people.

"There's nobody I've ever talked to that had any unkind words to say about the man," said Tom Schroeder. "He was just a people person who liked everybody. He got along great with everybody with all folks. [I've] Never really met anyone like him to be honest with you."

The community will pay a tribute to Baugher on Saturday after the memorial service, including the color guard and the crossing of ladders on the fire truck.
