STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) — The Chestnut Hills Shopping Center has been a convenient place to shop for some in Staunton, but the last store, Family Dollar, is closing in June.
June Brown lives in Staunton and used to shop over there.
"Since all the other stores in that shopping area have moved out, I just don't go up there."
Brown says it's more convenient to go other places in the city, but she thinks something like a food or clothing store would be a good fit. Brown says it would help her out and others as well.
"You have to go across town, to Walmart, TJ Maxx, any of those places."
Brown says it's a lower income area, and a food store closer by would be needed. She says there aren't many options in the area.
"We have Food Lion, up the street. Put another grocery store up there, maybe one people can afford."
The west end of town is part of the opportunity zones program, which offers incentives for businesses who come into communities that would be helped by revitalization.
