April 18th is the Great Community Give!
It's a single day of giving to partnered local non-profits in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
There are over 50 non-profits participating.
Some are involved with the arts, educational initiatives, environmental projects, and even services for seniors and children.
You can give from 6:30 a.m this morning, until 8:00 p.m. this evening.
Revlan Hill, the Executive Director of the Community Foundation, explained why this initiative is important.
"What if we didn't have CASA for Children, or Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, or we didn't have the Salvation Army, or we didn't have the arts in this community, or we didn't have educational organizations? Wouldn't we be missing something? Our community wouldn't be what it is today," said Hill.
The goal was $70,000 from at least 3,000 members of the community. But that goal was surpassed by just 10 a.m., when donations had already reached $95,000.
A new goal was then set for $135,000, which would represent one dollar for every community member in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
As of 1:45 p.m., non-profits had raised nearly $175,000, with hours left for more donations.
"We've made giving really simple by using this community giving website," said Hill. "It's as easy as point, click, give."
