Grilled Cheese Mania transitions from truck to restaurant
Kathleen Mania-Casey and Grilled Cheese Mania recently made the transition from a food truck to a restaurant.
The new brick and mortar restaurant, owned by Mania-Casey, now calls 1476 S. Main Street in Harrisonburg home.
Mania-Casey wanted to make it look and feel like home for anyone who stops by for a sandwich or a cup of soup. Most of the sandwiches are named after family members or people who have helped Mania-Casey through the years.
Mania-Casey did everything she could to keep the home feeling within the restaurant. She even re-purposed items as they remodeled it.
"I know this might sound crazy, but there was a family that lived here at one time," Mania-Casey said, "and they have a lot of memories, and to keep it homey and keep pieces of the house instead of just destroying and putting everything brand new, just seems special to me."
She also made sure nothing went to waste as she remodeled. She donated many things from the house to Mercy House.
"I just started donating, and giving to people," Mania-Casey said, "so when we started doing this build out, the medicine cabinets, the light fixtures, doorways that came down, I donated to Mercy House."
Mania-Casey said the money she makes from the restaurant does not drive her, rather it is what she can do to help people with the money.
Grilled Cheese Mania is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
