Valley group marks one year of giving 'hope' to women
A woman is marking one year of spreading support to those going through a tough time.
Gigi Jones founded Handbags of Hope in August 2016 following the devastating floods in parts of West Virginia as a means of giving back.
Over the past 12 months, Jones' group has collected handbags filled with items a woman would typically store in her purse.
Jones said in the first year, 460 bags have been donated to victims of natural disasters, domestic violence shelters and other women in need in four states.
"It's very humbling. I'm very grateful to all the support that we have received, and we have received and continue to receive a great deal of support," Jones said.
Bags were made on Sunday to send to the victims of Hurricane Harvey in the Gulf region.
The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) Waynesboro Lodge #2270 is located at 1700 Harvard Road in Waynesboro, Va.
Their meetings are on each month's first and third Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. Their phone number is 540-942-9108.
