HARDY COUNTY, W.Va. (WHSV) — Deputies in Hardy County are searching for the person responsible for shooting several horses on Friday.

According to the Hardy County Sheriff's Office, a farrier arrived to a farm along Lower Arkansaw Road in Baker on the morning of May 17 to work on the hooves of several horses for their owner.

But when the farrier got there, they discovered three horses with gunshot wounds.

Two of the horses were killed, and the third was being treated for its injuries as of 4:50 p.m. in the evening.

The office says they are recovering evidence from the scene, interviewing neighbors, and investigating all tips about the situation.

Bullet casings are being analyzed to try and determine caliber and type of weapon used, but the sheriff's office tells WHSV the rounds appear to have been a smaller caliber.

If you have any information about what happened, you're asked to contact the Hardy County Sheriff's Office at pio@hardycounty.com or message their Facebook page.
