Harrisonburg reflects Virginia's low unemployment rate

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — The unemployment rate in Virginia is the lowest it has been since 2001, and Harrisonburg is following in the low unemployment trend.

Harrisonburg's unemployment rate sits at 2.7%.

Harrisonburg's rate is currently 2.7 percent. Brian Shull, director for Economic Development in Harrisonburg, said that although November is a strong month because of the holidays, Harrisonburg has been sitting steadily under 3 percent.

"It is making it a little bit tight for our employers who are trying to fill jobs," Shull said, "but we'll continue to work on that and that does mean workforce development is important for us."

He said ways they will address this are through apprenticeship programs and different job training throughout the region.
