Kids learn about personal health before classes start

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — Children got a lesson on personal health on Saturday ahead of the start of the school year.

Bricker said she estimated the event drew in about 200 people.

The Harrisonburg Community Health Care Center ended its celebration of National Health Center Week with a Back to School Bash at its location near Port Republic Road.

Executive Director Lisa Bricker said they wanted to help kids get a productive start.

"We take care of children from the time that they go home from the hospital until the time that folks take their last breath," Bricker said. "It's always about learning. It's just a comprehensive approach to wellness."

Along with learning about their health, kids also got to learn about first responders. Members of the local police, fire and EMS departments were all on hand.
