Increased security expected at Spotswood High School on Thursday

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) — According to a post on Facebook from Rockingham County Public Schools, there will be an increased security presence at Spotswood High School on Thursday.

The school district received calls from multiple parents and students on Wednesday night about a social media threat referring to a school with the initials "SHS" posted by a Facebook account with the profile name "Ray Andres."

Law enforcement was notified immediately and began investigation. No apparent connection to Spotswood was found, and local officials say the post was related to a school in Ohio.

But in the wake of threats, or concerns believed to be threats, to schools all across the Valley, including Buffalo Gap High School, Luray High School, and two Harrisonburg middle schools, these issues are being taken seriously.

So, out of an abundance of cautions, additional law enforcement will be present at Spotswood on Thursday.

A 13-year-old child was charged with a Class 6 felony for threatening the middle schools in Harrisonburg.
