Inmate convicted of killing deputy dies in prison
A West Virginia inmate convicted of killing a sheriff's deputy has died in prison, an official said.
Robert Gray, 61, died Wednesday of natural causes at the Mount Olive Correctional Complex, said Lawrence Messina, spokesman for the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety.
Gray was convicted of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy John Janey, WCHS-TV reported. He was sentenced to life in prison in 1990 and was denied parole multiple times.
Janey was off-duty and staking out a home for an insurance company when he was fatally shot.
