Lauren Thompson hopes to grab 25th District Democratic nomination
Lauren Thompson, a Navy veteran, is running against Jennifer Kitchen for the Democratic nomination in Virginia's 25th District.
Thompson, who has run for office before in Georgia, said she is running partly because of her children.
She has two daughters and a son, and she wants to work to make sure her daughters have the same opportunities as her son.
Thompson said transparency is another important issue to her, particularly when it comes to campaign finance.
But she says she also wants to learn about the issues that are important to the people she would represent.
"Issues that constituents in the 25th, what to bring forth, what their goals are," Thompson said. "I have my goals, but whatever their priorities are, are my priorities, and so that's what I want to hear about."
Thompson is hoping to beat out Kitchen for the Democratic nomination and then face Delegate Steve Landes, who is running for his 13th term.
