Jennifer Lewis, the Democrat hoping for a surprise victory on Election Day in one of Virginia's most conservative districts, rallied for support in Rockingham County on Sunday.

Brent Finnegan — who ran for a spot in the state General Assembly last year — joined Lewis as she stopped in Broadway.

"Jennifer's track record of service in our community has been impeccable," Finnegan said. "She's been in her community, serving in non-profits and community service organizations."

Finnegan also mentioned the issue which gave the mental health worker from Waynesboro more prominence in her community, her activism against the Atlantic Coast Pipeline.

In the running to represent a district which has not elected a Democrat to the U.S. House since 1990, Lewis has campaigned on making healthcare more affordable and raising the minimum wage.

Her opponent, State Delegate Ben Cline,

. Rep. Bob Goodlatte was on hand to show his support for the Republican.
