A house fire near Waynesboro that created a plume of smoke large enough to worry people throughout surrounding areas on Thursday left a Lyndhurst home destroyed.
According to the Waynesboro Fire Department, a call came in at 10:37 a.m. for a fire at 16 Acorn Hill Lane.
Multiple agencies responded, including fire crews from Waynesboro, Lyndhurst, Dooms, Greenville, Verona, and Swoope.
The house, though not far from Interstate 64, is located in a rural area near the Wildlife Center of Virginia, and had no fire hydrants nearby to assist in response to the fire. Because of that, tankers brought water to the scene, where heavy fire raged throughout the entire structure and destroyed a van parked beside the house as well.
The owners of the house were not home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
The building, however, was a total loss.
