For Harrisonburg residents looking to beat the heat this weekend, they could look no further than the Westover Swimming Pool. The pool was made free for the public on Saturday, June 22nd and Sunday, June 23rd.
Deputies arrested Isaiah J. Cassell, 21, of Mount Solon and Matthew T. Cassell, 20, of West Augusta, in relation to the shooting that left two teenage girls injured.
“Having events like this and being around helps people feel safe, because they feel seen,” said Peregrin Sanchez, site director for the Friendly City Safe Space.
Harrisonburg City Public Schools’ Mobile Café is back and running for its seventh summer. Five days a week a team of school employees and volunteers make various stops around Harrisonburg to provide free lunches for any child under 18 to help families in need.
The James Madison University community is currently mourning the loss of 20-year-old Ashley Williams after she was hit in a vehicle collision on June 14.
