Kai Degner pens second open letter to Congressman Goodlatte
Kai Degner has written an open letter to Bob Goodlatte with 99 days until this year's election. This is his second letter sent: the first was hand-delivered by Degner to announce his campaign, and the details of that can be found below and in the video above.
His new letter is copied to Donald Trump supporters and can be found in the 'Related Links' section of this article (to the top right on computer or tablet, at bottom if on a cellphone).
It runs through Degner's latest campaign updates, then shifts to focus on the sources of Goodlatte's financial contributions and his support for Donald Trump's campaign, despite what Degner asserts are contradictory beliefs from Goodlatte.
Representative Goodlatte has not publicly responded.
ORIGINAL STORY (6/9/2016):
Congressional candidate Kai Degner (D) directly addressed his opponent Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R) for the first time Thursday. In his message, Degner criticized Goodlatte's support of Donald Trump.
We followed as Degner walked to Goodlatte's district office in Harrionburg. In his hand was a letter introducing his campaign. His letter tells Goodlatte that he intends to run a "positive campaign" and that he'll focus on issues like reforming the justice system.
Degner said the main reason he's running against Goodlatte is because of the congressman's endorsement of Donald Trump. In his letter, Degner said, "Your explicit support for Donald Trump will, in my opinion, be a position that disqualifies your ability to represent Americans equally and without discrimination."
We've reached out to Goodlatte's office. They told WHSV they do not have a comment.
