New principal named for John Wayland Elementary

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- Rockingham County Public Schools just named a new principal for John Wayland Elementary School.

Her name is Ms. Karen Ridder. She'll begin her new leadership role July 1. She's from Rockingham County, and according to a release sent to WHSV, she is a graduate of Turner Ashby High School and Bridgewater College.

The school board says she has three years of English teaching experience in the middle school and eight years of elementary teaching experience. Ridder earned her masters degree in Reading through Shenandoah University and completed her administrative coursework at James Madison University.

Right now, she is an assistant principal at Wilbur Pence Middle School.

She and her husband, Scott, have two children, Michelle, a sophomore at JMU, and a son, Brad, a junior at TAHS.
