ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- Dr. Oskar Scheikl will be the new superintendent for Rockingham County Public Schools.

Oskar Scheikl is the current Director of Information Management for RCPS.

At Monday night's school board meeting, Scheikl was announced as Dr. Carol Fenn's replacement. Last year, Fenn announced her intent to retire.

Currently, Scheikl serves as the Director of Information Management for Rockingham County Public Schools. He'll assume the superintendent responsibilities effective July 1, 2017.

After a nearly a decade in the position, Fenn announced her plan to retire at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year. Fenn sat down with WHSV last year to reflect on her decision to leave her post effective June 30th, 2017. You can find that story in the Related Links section of this article.

Scheikl, 50, was born in Salzburg, Austria and attended James Madison University. He has worked in the Rockingham County Public Schools division since 1995, when he was hired at Broadway High School as a social studies teacher.

He also coaches the Spottswood girl's varsity soccer team and enjoys playing the sport.
