One gubernatorial candidate made a stop in the Valley this week.

Tom Perriello, former U.S. Representative for Virginia's 5th congressional district, stopped at

in Harrisonburg for a meet and greet today.

Perriello is running for Governor of Virginia, against a host of other candidates.

He stopped by Pale Fire to meet some people, get his name out there, and talk about one of his main platforms -- small businesses.

In early polls, Perriello is trailing his democratic competitor, Ralph Northam, by double digits.

However, Perriello knows it is early, and says some people don't even know there is a race this year.

"Most people in Virginia don't even know there is a governor's race going on, and we pay so much attention every four years to the Presidency, but when it comes to things that matter most, these are things where the state government has a particularly high impact," said Perriello.

Some of those issues in Perriello's vision are high quality air and water, education, and criminal justice reform.
