A portion of the Appalachian Trail is closed for overnight camping.
According to a post on the Shenandoah National Park Facebook's page, recent bear activity on the trail from Rip Rap Parking to Turk Gap Parking prompted officials to close it to backcountry camping.
"You can still hike there, but be sure you are bear-safe," read the post. Park officials reminded those not to have smellable items in your pack or pockets.
