SHENANDOAH COUNTY,Va.(WHSV) -- On Thursday, Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors adopted a strategic plan to join the Shenandoah County Department of Fire and Rescue and the volunteer agencies as one.
The strategic plan focuses on five areas including recruitment, structure, training, communications, and equipment needs.
The plan is made up of several different goals aimed at improving training, recruitment and communications throughout the department.
County officials said this plan will help improve the high demand for first responders in the area.
Chief Tim Williams of Shenandoah County Department of Fire and Rescue said the reorganization will not only help with retention of volunteers but also how fires are fought.
"It's not a consultant study this is merely a strategic plan that will move fire and rescue as a combination system forward in the future to meet the future needs," Chief Williams, said.
Chief Williams said the department has more than 300 volunteers and are always recruiting for more.
