Thousands of people take I-81 every day, and it's been the source of a lot of concern for some time now. But leaders from all over the Valley are taking this issue seriously, and after a meeting on Tuesday, options could soon be in the works for improvement.

On Tuesday, the Commonwealth Board of Transportation met with VDOT and many others from the community, to discuss how to move forward with I-81 issues.

Many leaders including Delegate Dickie Bell and Senator Mark Obenshain, believe together, they can come up with short term and long term solutions, for the highway and travelers.

"It's my hope that the Commonwealth Transportation Board is going to work with VDOT, work with other legislators to develop a comprehensive strategy for addressing these safety issues and delay issues," said Senator Obenshain. "Hopefully there are some short term measures that can be taken."

Right now leaders with the transportation board plan to gather information from 4 to 5 spots along 81, with the most crashes and delays.

After that they will submit an application to the Trump Administration for $60 million in funding for projects along I-81.
