AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) — A Staunton woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Monday evening, according to Virginia State Police.

A press release from a State Police spokeswoman says a 2017 Nissan Rogue was heading west on Route 654 on Monday evening at 9 p.m., approaching Route 11 in Mint Spring.

Trooper A.J. Garasimowicz concluded that the car failed to stop for the posted stop sign at the intersection with Rt. 11, crossed the highway, ran off the road, struck an embankment, and then hit a number of trees before coming to a stop in a field.

Police say the driver, 39-year-old Ammal Yousef Hameidan, of Staunton, was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
