Stuff The Bus - Supplies sorted and ready to go

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Good neighbors in the Valley are making sure students are prepared for the start of school. WHSV collected thousands of school supplies over the weekend during our Stuff The Bus campaign.

Early Monday morning, some supplies were dropped off at Thomas Harrison Middle School. There, they were sorted by nearly twenty kids to be shipped off to other schools in the area. Coordinators say that it's a great way to help kids start the new school year without worrying about school supplies.

"We have a lot of students that need that extra support," says Virginia Healy, a teacher at Thomas Harrison. "And when we can just know that we can give it to them, and we can do it in a way that doesn't - no one else needs to know that they were given it, it really helps the students a great deal."

She also said they're grateful for the community members who helped during this past weekend. "I would just like to say thank you. You have no idea what it means to the families and to the teachers that we can give these supplies to the students. I just really can't say enough that it's just a great thing."

Supplies that were donated in a specific area will stay in that area, so if you donated in Harrisonburg, those supplies will go to kids in Harrisonburg; if you donated in Staunton, those supplies will go to kids in Staunton, and so on.
