ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. WHSV -- Volunteers and families gathered at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds on Friday to pass out donations from this year's Toy Convoy.
Around 1,500 families in Rockingham County and Harrisonburg waited for their number to be called to pick up donations made by good neighbors around the Valley.
It wasn't just about the toys either. Coats, shoes, entire outfits, and even food baskets were handed out, to make sure everyone is able to have a merry Christmas.
"This is one less stress that they have to deal with: to know that their children are going to have a merry Christmas because of generous supporters all over the Valley,' said Salvation Army Maj. Hank Harwell. "There is a sense of --at least for one day-- that all is right with the world, that somebody has cared enough to provide Christmas."
Dozens of volunteers helped to make sure the distribution went smoothly. In addition to children, around 50 adults senior adults also received donations.
