Urgent care clinic to open at White's Travel Center off of I-81
An urgent care clinic is set to open next year at a travel center off Interstate 81, partly intended to serve truck drivers passing through.
On Wednesday, Carilion Clinic announced that it will lease 6,300 square feet of an 8,300 square feet facility being constructed at White's Travel Center in Raphine.
That's just off of Exit 205 on Interstate 81, between Staunton and Lexington.
The clinic will be called a VelocityCare urgent care clinic. Carilion will also be taking over management of the pharmacy at the travel center.
“Our travel center serves nearly 2 million visitors every year,” said Bobby Berkstresser, owner of White’s Travel Center. “For many of the truck drivers, scheduling medical visits is not an option. This will provide them instant and convenient access to care without disrupting their busy travel schedule.”
The facility began construction at the end of July. It doesn't yet have an official address; however, the building will be at the corner of Steeles Fort Road and Commerce Park Drive.
“Because Carilion’s mission is to improve the health of our communities, we are always looking for the best ways to serve our patients, and do so in a way that is convenient for them,” said Chuck Carr, Carilion vice president. “This location is unique in that we can better meet the needs of the Raphine community while also serving the many travelers who wouldn’t otherwise have easy access to quality care.”
