Valentine's Day offers sweet business for local cupcake store

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — With Valentine's Day around the corner, love is in the air. For The Cupcake Company in Harrisonburg, it also means business is booming.

Brown said the store receives plenty of orders placed ahead of time for Valentine's Day along with walk-ins.

Renee Brown, the store's owner, guesses the holiday gives the shop somewhere between 600% and 700% more business than an average day.

All the extra business means a lot of cupcakes. Brown said on an average day, The Cupcake Company makes six dozen to eight dozen of each flavor cupcake. The store makes about 24 dozen on Valentine's Day.

"It gets a little crazy in here on Valentine's Day and a couple days before, so we know what to expect after we've been doing it for so long, but it can definitely get a little crazy," Brown said. "Very, very busy."

As a Valentine's Day special, the store is also offering chocolate-covered strawberries. Brown said they have gotten so many requests for them in the past, they decided to make it happen and offer the sweet treats.
