Valley Subaru "shares the love" with Valley Children's Advocacy Center

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) — The Valley Children's Advocacy Center is looking forward to "sharing the love" with more children in the community, thanks to a $15,000 donation from Valley Subaru's Share the Love event.

"We've known about the Share the Love event for a couple of years and are always trying to put our name in the hat so we were really excited when we were chosen," said Rebecca Simmons, executive director for the Valley Children's Advocacy Center.

The advocacy center is a nonprofit that works with local agencies to protect child victims of abuse from any further trauma.

According to Scott Simons, managing partner at Valley Subaru, the decision to give the advocacy center the money was an easy one, and they are proud to be able to support the important work the center does for local children.

"We couldn't imagine you know that happening to any of our children, much less the children of this community," Simons said, "so when you hear stories like that and what they do it was really a no brainer."

Since 2014, Simmons said the advocacy center has seen a 70 percent increase of referrals to their agency, and the donation is coming at a perfect time.

"We are going to use this money for a larger space," Simmons said. "We have some really specific things, how we need things to be laid out and that sort of thing, and so we need a really specialized space, and we're going to use this for those types of improvements."

Simmons said they hope they will be able to get into a bigger space within the next two years, and with the help from Valley Subaru, they are now one step closer to that goal.
