Drivers should be prepared for delays or find alternate routes if they're planning to take Route 11 in southern Augusta County on Friday afternoon.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), a vehicle fire has shut down the highway near Evans Lane, just north of Riverheads High School. That's a little north of where Routes 11 and 340 meet.
All northbound and southbound lanes of the highway are closed as crews respond to the scene. There's no word on how far backups stretch.
Detouring around the scene could be done by using Swartzel Shop Rd. to Stuarts Draft Hwy. (Rt. 340) to Walnut Hill Rd.
It's Memorial Day weekend, which means much higher traffic volume, especially on Interstate 81.
