RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A Virginia sheriff has been charged in connection with a two-car crash.

Richmond police spokeswoman Koury Wilson tells The Richmond Times-Dispatch that Richmond City Sheriff Antionette V. Irving is charged with disregarding a red light in the Wednesday afternoon crash. Richmond police say another car crashed into the driver's side of the sheriff's cruiser.

Irving was not injured, while the other driver was taken to the hospital with neck and back injuries considered not life-threatening.

Both drivers told Richmond police they thought they had a green light. The Richmond Police Department is a separate agency from the Richmond City Sheriff's Office.

Irving did not return the newspaper's requests for comment. It's unclear whether she has a lawyer.
