WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) -- As part of National Law Enforcement Week, the Waynesboro Police Department had a special memorial service Tuesday night.

The department lit candles in memory of officers lost in the line of duty and in support of active law enforcement and their families. They also had a number of speakers.

"To the families of those brave men and women who died in the line of duty this last year, our law enforcement family here in Waynesboro grieves with you and we feel the enormity of your loss," Waynesboro Police Chief Michael Wilhelm said.

Those who attended also sang hymns, said prayers and expressed their appreciation of local law enforcement.
