SHENANDOAH VALLEY, Va. (WHSV) — There are a lot of great events going on this weekend, but one of them is epic!
It's the second annual Epic Fest this Saturday in Elkton. This beer and wine festival will have a variety of beers on tap and wine available. More info about this event can be found here.
Another "berry sweet" event is happening in Harrisonburg on Saturday — it's the Rotary Strawberry Festival. There will be strawberry shortcakes, chocolate-covered strawberries, and strawberry sundaes on sale. All of the money goes to park initiatives in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. It's a free event, so bring all your buds... including your taste buds! More info about this event can be found here.
This Saturday is Lil' Country at Staunton Jams in downtown Staunton. There will be arts and crafts, farm activities, and, of course, music! Country for the kids, and rock 'n' roll for adults. More info about this event can be found here.
My weekend spotlight is the Battle of New Market's 155th anniversary reenactment at the Virginia Museum of the Civil War. There are different battle reenactments on both Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are available at a discounted price online but are also available at the door. It's the longest continual reenactment in the United States, and it is still held on the original battlefield property where the actual event took place! More info about this event can be found here.
"It's the history of where you live," said Sarah Mink, supervisor of historical interpretation at the Virginia Museum of the Civil War. "This is something that happened here in the Shenandoah Valley, it's something that happened on the front door steps of many people who have lived in this area for generations. This is their ancestors that dealt with this."
