From a contest involving cupcakes to car racing, there's a lot going on this weekend. Meteorologist Mackenzie Lee has a look at a few events you don't want to miss in her weekend picks.

A Saturday with no plans? What a nightmare! Why not head out to the 16th Annual Sweet Dreams Festival in Stuarts Draft? It's a free, family-friendly event held at Stuarts Draft Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a 5K, contests, food vendors, entertainers, and even a chocolate cupcake eating contest! On Sunday, the grand opening celebration at Rockingham Park is kicking off from 1 to 5 p.m. There will be ice cream, concessions, archery tag, face painting, tailgate games, and a bounce house. You can find more information about this event here.

This Saturday, the Shenandoah Speedway will honor active military, veterans, and first responders with the inaugural Veterans Classic. It's a major stock car race featuring super cup stock cars and legends cars with drivers from across the region competing. Proceeds from ticket sales go toward local veterans' groups. This weekend's spotlight is the fourth annual Anicira's 'Walk for the Animals' at Bluestone Vineyard, this Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Dogs and their humans can enjoy a 1-mile walk through the vineyard, followed by activities for dogs including bobbing for treats and musical chairs! There will also be vendors, a DJ, games and food. This event benefits Anicira, a nonprofit animal welfare organization. There will also be dogs up for adoption at the event.
