HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — Coinciding with the launch of 2019 football season ticket sales, the James Madison Duke Club is excited to announce a new model of giving for 2019 and beyond. In response to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, the Duke Club took the opportunity to address the tax law changes by creating two funds to support student-athlete scholarships and the general operating budget, the Proud and True Fund and the Duke Club Seat Contribution Fund.
Season tickets for the 2019 JMU football season, presented by Carmax, are on sale now at JMUTickets.com. Tickets include all six home contests against Saint Francis (9/7), Morgan State (9/14), Villanova (10/12), Towson (10/26), New Hampshire (11/9) and Richmond (11/16) as the Dukes embark on a new era under the guidance of Head Coach Curt Cignetti.
As a reminder to fans, 2019 is a reseating year for Bridgeforth Stadium. Fans should order tickets prior to the May 15 priority deadline in order to participate in reseating. All fans interested in club seats can take advantage of early bird ticket pricing of $650, which expires on February 15, 2019.
The new Duke Club membership changes focus on a personalized giving structure, tax deductibility and increasing fundraising support for JMU student-athlete scholarships. The Proud and True Fund will support our student-athlete scholarships and general operating budget while providing gameday experience benefits such as parking and access to purchase hospitality passes. The donors will be able to claim 100% tax deductibility for their gift. You can view the Proud and True Fund giving level here.
The Duke Club Seat Contribution will also serve as a vehicle to support our annual fund through per seat contributions tied to home football tickets. Priority tickets will require a $50 per seat contribution, Chairback tickets will require a $300 per seat contribution and Club Level tickets will require a $800 per seat contribution. These contributions are not tax deductible and do not count towards your Proud and True Fund giving level. No seat contributions are required for basketball in 2019-20.
"It was important for us (the Duke Club) to evaluate the current landscape of giving," said Senior Associate A.D. for Development Justin Jannuzzi. "We spent the last year studying different models, meeting with our donors and ultimately, we landed on this bifurcated annual fund model."
Donors are now able make their gift to the Proud and True Fund to support JMU Athletics online, over the phone, by mail or in-person. Payment plans are still available to break up your gift throughout the year. Duke Club Seat Contributions will be collected at the time of your football ticket order. You will also have the option to set up a payment plan for your Seat Contribution as well as football ticket cost. "Our goal is to make giving as easy on the donor as possible," said Justin Jannuzzi.
Director of the Annual Fund Michael Prior said, "I believe the new giving structure allows for everyone to support our student-athletes in their own way. By creating these two funds, we have provided a better way to financially support athletics whether you attend athletic events or not, live in-state or out-of-state or want to give to the area of greatest need."
