STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- Like many students, Robert E. Lee High School senior Emily van Assendelft is a three sport athlete, but she has accomplished a lot more than the typical student athlete.
"Just managing all that and getting everything done," Lee High cross country coach Nate Lawrence said. "Performing at the level that she does in all that she does, I think is really impressive."
In addition to her success inside and outside of the athletic arena, Emily also has a class best 4.803 GPA.
"While many things do come scholastically easy for her, she puts the work in also, which I've always appreciated," Lee High teacher Bill Terry said.
Emily is waiting to hear back from Swarthmore college, where she's hoping to run at the division III level and study engineering. She hopes to one day be an environmental engineer, and possibly work as a professor and coach cross country.
