Casto stepping down as Riverheads head coach after 23 seasons

STAUNTON, Va. -- Riverheads High School football head coach Robert Casto is stepping down from his position after 23 season leading the Gladiators.

Casto confirmed the news to WHSV via email Wednesday afternoon.

"I have had a wonderful experience as the coach at Riverheads for the past 23 years," said Casto.

Under Casto's leadership, Riverheads has become one of the premier high school football teams in the state of Virginia. The Gladiators won six state titles with Casto at the helm, including the last three Class 1A state championships.

In total, Riverheads posted a 222-59 record with Casto as head coach.

Casto will continue to work at Riverheads High School as a teacher.
