HARRISONBURG, Va. -- James Madison redshirt junior Kayla Cooper-Williams is the anchor of the Dukes frontcourt.
Cooper-Williams ranks among the top rebounders and shot-blockers in the Colonial Athletic Association. Her 25 blocks are #1 in the conference and her 9.4 rebounds per game ranks second in the CAA.
While Cooper-Williams averages only 5.2 points per game, she is one of the most important players on a JMU team that's been picked to win the CAA in 2018-2019.
"I take a lot of pride in it to make sure that I do a good job protecting the basket," said Cooper-Williams.
Her head coach has nothing but praise when describing how the center has helped the Dukes to an 8-3 start to the season.
"She's been what I had always hoped she would be," said head coach Sean O'Regan. "I think she is really coming into her comfort level of being the beast that I think she is so it's been awesome to watch her."
JMU opens CAA play Friday night at Delaware. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Newark.
