CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Virginia basketball senior forward Mamadi Diakite announced late Wednesday night he is returning to Charlottesville for his senior season.
Diakite had declared for the NBA Draft but withdrew his name before the 11:59 p.m. ET deadline Wednesday evening.
Diakite's 7.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 21.8 minutes per game during the 2018-2019 season were all career highs. He started 22 games for the Wahoos this season, including the Cavaliers' last five games during their NCAA Tournament run. He averaged 10.5 points and 8.2 rebounds in those six tournament games.
Diakite also hit what will surely go down as one of the most legendary shots in UVA history en route to that NCAA title. His buzzer-beater off a mid-court feed from Kihei Clark forced overtime in the Wahoos' eventual Elite Eight win against Purdue.
