East Rockingham boys excited to continue historic season

ELKTON, Va. -- The East Rockingham High School boys basketball team will compete in the program's first-ever state semifinal game Tuesday night.

The Eagles will meet Goochland at Mills Godwin High School for a spot in the Class 2A state championship game. It is another landmark contest for East Rock in the 2018-2019 season.

East Rockingham has accomplished multiple firsts this winter. The Eagles defeated rival Spotswood for the first time, won their first region title, earned their first-ever trip to the state tournament, and earned the first state tournament win in East Rockingham boys basketball history with a quarterfinal victory over Greensville County.

"To be in this position is why we work so hard in the offseason," said East Rockingham head coach Carey Keyes. "It's why I am here."

"Five years ago I took the job not wanting to be an average basketball program. I wanted to be a great basketball program and we have worked really hard to get to this point."

East Rockingham and Goochland will meet for a 6 p.m. tip-off Tuesday evening.
