HARRISONBURG, Va. – Former James Madison wide receiver Ishmael Hyman is bound for the National Football League, as he signed a three-year, free-agent contract with the Cleveland Browns on Thursday.
He earned his NFL contract after participating in the Browns’ minicamp on a tryout basis.
Hyman, who played for the Dukes from 2014-17, was one of JMU’s top deep-threat targets. In 48 career games, he made 72 receptions for 1,061 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had a career average of 14.7 yards per reception. As a senior in 2017, Hyman made 29 catches for 408 yards and four touchdowns.
Prior to his signing with the Browns, Hyman played for the Orlando Apollos in the Alliance of American Football. In his five games this spring, he tallied four catches for 60 yards, including a long of 23.
Hyman is one of nine former JMU standouts who are currently signed to NFL contracts.
