Fort Defiance girls off to undefeated start in Valley District play

FORT DEFIANCE, Va. -- The Fort Defiance High School girls basketball team is unbeaten in Valley District play.

The Indians are 7-3 overall and 4-0 against district opponents. FDHS is tied with Spotswood (9-0 Overall, 5-0 Valley District) atop the Valley District standings.

Fort Defiance's success comes with a young roster. The Indians have just three seniors on the team and at times multiple freshmen and sophomores can be on the court.

""It's actually a good feeling to know that you don't have to be an upper classman to contribute as much as you want to the team," said freshman guard Kiersten Ransome.

Fort Defiance has won three straight games and owns Valley District victories over Harrisonburg, Broadway, Turner Ashby, and Waynesboro. But the Indians are now preparing for their toughest test of the season.

FDHS travels to Spotswood, the #1-ranked girls team in the TV3 Top 3, for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off Friday night. The winner takes over sole possession of first place in the Valley District.
