BROOKLINE, Mass. (JMU Athletics) -- James Madison baseball (30-21, 10-11 CAA) fell to the Northeastern Huskies 5-4 in the ninth, as Northeastern walked off on the Dukes to take the series Sunday. Dan Goggin was pegged with the loss falling to 0-2 on the season, as David Willis' throw was just offline to gun the runner out at the plate. JMU pitchers broke a school record on Sunday, striking out 9 batters to bring the total to 497 and counting. The previous record was 495 set by the 2000 team.
JMU scored first on a wild pitch, after Kyle Hayes advanced to third on a DaVonn Griffin groundout. Northeastern would answer in the third, as Jeff Costello tied the ballgame with a base hit through the right side. The Huskies would score three in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead heading into the fifth.
The Dukes would claw back into the ballgame, scoring on a Matt Dipasupil sacrifice fly to center field, cutting the lead to 4-2. In the sixth Fox Semones singled to left to bring Kyle Hayes around from second to score. In the ninth the Dukes had nobody on and one out, as Brady Harju tied the game with a home run to left center field. The Huskies would walk it off in the ninth to take the series from the Dukes.
- JMU pitchers broke the program record for strikeouts in a season with 9 strikeouts today, bringing the season total to 497. The previous record was 495 by the 2000 Dukes.
- Kyle Hayes had a good day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
- Brady Harju tied the game with a home right in left center in the top of the ninth to force the Huskies to have to grab the bats one final time.
- Kyle Novak had a good day at the plate as well for the Dukes, going 2-for-3 and drawing two walks.

Top 5th | JMU 2 – NU 4 | Matt Dipasupil punched a sacrifice fly out to center field to score Fox Semones and cut the lead to 4-2.
Top 6th | JMU 3 – NU 4 | Fox Semones singled to left field to bring Kyle Hayes around to score and cut the lead to 4-3.
Top 9th | JMU 4 – NU 4 | Brady Harju homers to left center field to tie the ballgame for the Dukes in the ninth.
Bottom 9th | JMU 4 – NU 5 | Corey DiLoreto flied out to right field and the Huskies walked off to defeat the Dukes Sunday.
The Dukes will be back in action Tuesday against Maryland. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Veterans Memorial Park.
