JMU baseball preparing for another important weekend

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The James Madison baseball team has another opportunity to improve its chances of earning a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament when the Dukes host Towson for a weekend series from May 3-5.

JMU (25-19 overall, 6-9 CAA) is currently part of a four-way tie for fifth place in the conference standings. The top six teams earn a bid to the CAA tournament.

The Dukes are tied with Towson, Hofstra, and Delaware in the conference standings. JMU holds the tiebreaker over both Hofstra and Delaware due to series wins over those teams.

The series between JMU and Towson begins Friday night with a 6 p.m. first pitch. Game two on Saturday is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. with the series wrapping up Sunday at 2 p.m.

Bechtold to make Sunday start
Redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher Michael Bechtold will make his first conference start of the season Sunday vs. Towson. He has started five midweek games this season.

Bechtold is 2-1 with a 5.87 ERA. He has struck out 21 batters while also walking 21 batters in 23 innings pitched. He replaces lefty Joe Williams in the conference rotation.
