HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The James Madison softball team opens conference play for the 2019 season Saturday. The Dukes will host Elon for a three-game series at Veterans Memorial Park.

JMU enters conference play ranked No. 19 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll. The Dukes have won nine straight games to improve their record to 17-5 overall.

However, the start of Colonial Athletic Association play presents a new challenge for JMU.

"You're always going to get a battle in conference play," said JMU head coach Loren LaPorte. "They're going to come at you with their best and I think it's important for our team to never let up."

The Dukes and Phoenix will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 11 a.m. Both games will be broadcast on NBC Sports Washington. The two teams will finish the three-game series Sunday at noon.
