HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The women's lacrosse game between James Madison and Cornell University scheduled for Sunday in Ithaca, New York has been cancelled.

The decision comes after the Ivy League, which Cornell is a member of, announced it has cancelled all spring sports competition and practices in response to the Coronavirus, which has now become a global pandemic.

The NCAA released a statement Wednesday recommending "against sporting events open to the public." NCAA President Mark Emmert said the upcoming Division I men's and women's basketball tournaments will be played with only essential staff and limited family in attendance.

As for JMU Athletics, the school announced Wednesday: "There are no changes to the university’s athletics schedule at this time. The university will continue to communicate with the NCAA and Colonial Athletic Association regarding athletics operations. Updates to athletics will be posted to jmusports.com."
