PENN LAIRD, Va. -- No. 2 East Rockingham defeated No. 1 Spotswood, 64-58, Wednesday night for the Eagles' first-ever win over the Trailblazers.
Senior forward Dalton Jefferson scored 20 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and blocked 10 shots in the victory. 14 of Jefferson's points came in the first half as the Eagles took a seven point-lead into halftime.
East Rockingham (17-2 Overall, 13-0 Shenandoah District) extended its lead to 13 points in the third quarter when Tyce McNair drilled a three-pointer. McNair finished the game with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Spotswood (16-3 Overall, 9-0 Valley District) responded with an 8-0 run cutting the deficit to five points, 46-41, heading into the fourth quarter.
East Rockingham built another double-digit lead in the final frame and held off a late Spotswood rally to clinch the program's first win over its Rockingham County rival.
Spotswood's Rob Smith led all scorers with 22 points. Kaleb Strawderman added 16 points for the Trailblazers.
