HARRISONBURG, Va. -- James Madison cornerback Jimmy Moreland and punt returner D’Angelo Amos were recognized amongst the top players in the country, as the two were named Associated Press FCS All-Americans, the AP announced Tuesday.

Moreland was selected as a First Team defensive back, and Amos was a Second Team all-purpose player.

The 2018 Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year, Moreland paced the league with five interceptions while leading the country with three interceptions for a touchdown. The First Team All-CAA selection is JMU’s all-time leader with 18 career interceptions and has a CAA-record six pick-sixes. Moreland accrued a JMU single-season record 217 interception return yards and also ranked ninth nationally with 15 passes defended. In 13 starts at corner, Moreland tallied 56 total tackles to go with 7.5 for loss, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one recovery, 10 pass breakups and a blocked punt.

Amos earned First Team All-CAA honors after leading the FCS with three punt returns for a touchdown and 22.0 yards per return. He’s the lone CAA player with more than one punt return for a score, as his three matches all other players combined across the league. He’s one of just five players in the FCS with more than one punt return TD. In October, Amos tied program records with two punt returns for a touchdown, 183 punt return yards and a long of 89 yards on his first score at Villanova, earning National Special Teams Player of the Week distinction. He also started every game at safety, accumulating 64 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a half sack, two fumble recoveries and six breakups.

It is the first career All-America accolade for either player, and this marks the third straight season multiple JMU players were voted AP All-Americans.
