Page County rising sophomore left-handed pitcher TR Williams has committed to play college baseball for Virginia Tech. The news was confirmed to WHSV by Williams' father Wednesday afternoon.
Williams chose the Hokies over a number of other Division 1 schools who had showed interest including Vanderbilt, Auburn, and Virginia.
As a freshman, Williams helped Page County win the Class 2A state title earlier this year. Williams threw a complete game in the state championship game to help the Panthers defeat Virginia High, 5-4. In the 2A quarterfinals, the freshman lefty struck out 15 in six innings pitched in a win over Maggie Walker.
Williams finished his freshman season with a 12-0 record to go along with a 1.36 ERA and 141 strikeouts in 77.1 innings pitched. His performance earned him a spot on the 2018 MaxPreps Underclass All-American Baseball Team.
Later this month, Williams will travel to Cary, North Carolina to tryout for the USA Baseball Team 15U National Team.
